The Parliament House by night.
Always look on the bright side of things: the seemingly perennial darkness of the Finnish winter may be a cause of seasonal depression for many, but it has also some advantages. The city-wide event of Season of Light makes the most of the circumstances, turning the gloomy conditions into a backdrop for some stunning use of light.
Starting from the New Year, the third annual Season of Light will light up notable buildings and locations in Helsinki. This year’s event sees it taking over the city more broadly than before, as several locations will serve as backdrops for shows of light and colour. The most prominent sites will be the Senate Square and Parliament House, which also in the earlier years provided stages for week-long light shows.
In addition to these places, the international team behind this year’s lighting design has created a walk in the city centre that encompasses prominent buildings and locations, presenting them in a new light. The walk starts from Esplanadi Park, continuing via the Senate Square, Unioninkatu, Kaisaniemi Park and Sanoma House and ending at Parliament House.
