The discussion was then started in the beginning of 2002. A preparatory meeting of CALSiF was held in Helsinki on November 22nd, 2003, in which nine of 11 initiators attended. The letters for the call to establish CALSiF were then sent to Chinese people who current, or used to, work and study in the fields related to life science in Finland.
