The Neuroscience Center (NC) is an independent research and educational institute (see
http://www.helsinki.fi/neurosci). Research and teaching in the NC focus on the following
four areas: molecular and cellular neuroscience, developmental neuroscience, cognitive
and systems neuroscience, and basic research of the nervous system diseases. The Center
has currently 16 research groups and 150 staff members. The total budget in 2011 is 4.7
million euros. The NC has the following core facility units: mouse behavioural, zebrafish
and neuronal cell culture units.

The Neuroscience Center invites applications for DIRECTOR for a five year position
starting from January 1, 2013. The term is renewable.

The Director's duties are to manage and supervise the NC’s activities and finances, and
to participate in its scientific activities. The Director shall hold a doctoral degree.
The appointee is expected to have excellent track record, knowledge of relevant
scientific fields and experience in leading scientific research. The successful candidate
should also have the ability and drive to work for the benefit of the scientific
community. Start-up funding for the Director is negotiable. The Director's salary will be
based on the salary system for teaching and research personnel of the Finnish
universities.

- a report of the previous achievements (max 5 pages),
- a research plan of the Director’s research group (max 5 pages),
- a publication list and
- a curriculum vitae (2–3 pages)

The Scientific Advisory Board (http://www.helsinki.fi/neurosci/NC/SAB.html) issues a
statement on the competence of the applicants and the Board submits a proposal for the
appointment to the position of the Director. The Rector appoints the Director of the NC.
