ISB The National Doctoral Programme in Informational and Structural Biology (ISB) invites applications for four year doctoral training positions for 2012-2015. ISB:http://web.abo.fi/isb/ TBDP National Doctoral Programme of Musculoskeletal Disorders and Biomaterials (TBDP) is announcing 15 PhD student positions for 2012 – 2013. National Doctoral Programme of Musculoskeletal Disorders and Biomaterials (TBDP) is a network-type of doctoral program offering scientific research training. The aim of TBDP is to educate PhD students to become experts in the areas of musculoskeletal disorders and biomaterials. The deadline for applications is August 31st 2011 at 4 p.m. TuBS The Turku Doctoral Programme of Biomedical Sciences (TuBS) invites applications for international four-year doctoral training positions for 2012-2015. PhD students are offered an excellent research training programme, including basic and advanced courses in biomedical research as well as transferable skills. Doctoral studies are undertaken in the supervision of affiliated principal investigators. The goal is to achieve a doctoral degree within the four –year period from the starting date of the studies. TuBS provides 50 % of the salary and the supervisor is responsible for the other half. The salary for the positions will be based on the salary system of Finnish universities. The application form together with attachments (figures) should be sent as one (1) PDF document to nina.widberg@utu.fi. Detailed information about the application procedure is below. The closing date for applications is Wednesday, August 31, 2011. The application procedure: 1. Submitting the application form with attachment as one (1) PDF document (deadline: Wednesday, Aug, 31, 2011). 2. Short problem essay from given material eg. scientific article/one page synopsis on Friday, September 2, 2011 at 9.00-11.00. Place: Auditorium of Microbiological Institute, Mikro (Kiinamyllynkatu 13). 3. Oral presentations. Based on the evaluation of the application and the short problem essay some applicants will be invited for an interview by the board of TuBS. In this interview the selected applicants will give an oral presentation (3 power point –slides in 5 minutes, saved in PDF format) on their research proposal, followed by questions from the board members. The preliminary dates for the interviews are in September (19, 20, 22, 23), please mark the dates in your calendar, because the invitations will be sent with very short notice. 4. Final selection of PhD students 5. After being selected to TuBS, a prerequisite for continuing to study in TuBS doctoral programme and receiving TuBS funding (=salary) is to hand in the supervision agreement and passing the Molecular and Cell Biology – examination. The exam must be passed on one occasion, which is arranged in November 18th 2011 at 9.00-11.00. Place: Auditorium of Microbiological Institute, Mikro (Kiinamyllynkatu 13). The suggested reading for the examination is Alberts, Lewis, Raff, Roberts, Walter (2008): Molecular Biology of the Cell, 5th edition, Garland Sciences, New York. VGSB Viikki Doctoral Programme in Molecular Biosciences (VGSB) -- an international PhD training program of the University of Helsinki - invites applications for Doctoral Student positions starting on January 1, 2012. VGSB offers both Ministry of Education funded positions, and Research Group funded positions. Research Group funded students are full members of the graduate school but their monthly income is paid by another source than VGSB. VGSB focuses on the molecular mechanisms behind basic biological phenomena, and the research fields represented by VGSB are related to the research programs of Viikki Research Group Organization in Molecular Biosciences. VGSB's doctoral students are privileged to participate in an excellent PhD training program including basic and advanced courses in bioscience research, as well as extensive transferable skills courses. The goal is to achieve the doctoral degree from the University of Helsinki within the four-year graduate school period. The progress of the student is supported by the supervisor, a carefully selected Follow Up Group, and VGSB. The Doctoral Student positions are open for all graduate students with a background in natural sciences, biology, medicine or another equivalent field. Applicants selected should start working in a VGSB affiliated research group from January 1st, 2012, and register as doctoral students of the University of Helsinki by the end of March, 2012. Undergraduate students are welcome to apply if their Master's Thesis/Diploma/Pro Gradu has been accepted by the faculty. The MSc degree (or equivalent) must be completed by March 2012 at the latest. The Ministry of Education funded positions at VGSB can be applied maximally for four years. The salary for the present positions will be based on level 2 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. The salary costs of the Ministry of Education funded Doctoral Student positions will be covered by VGSB, and limited to the funds allocated for the purpose by the Ministry of Education.
