We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher who is committed to applying
their expertise in understanding, at the molecular level, how microbial activity within
the gut interacts with receptors that influence appetite regulation and metabolism.

Increased intake of some dietary non-digestible but fermentable carbohydrate has been
associated with improved body composition and improved metabolic control, of glucose in
particular. The aim of the project is to investigate the bacterial mechanisms involved in
short chain fatty acid (SCFA) production in the human colon from non digestible but
fermentable carbohydrate and to investigate how SCFAs interact with free fatty acid
receptors in the gut to regulate appetite and improve metabolic control of glucose.

The project and this post will be based primarily at RINH in Aberdeen, but will be
supervised jointly between RINH and University of Glasgow. This position is funded
through a Strategic Partnership research grant from the Scottish Government (RESAS) to
University of Glasgow and the Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health (RINH), University
of Aberdeen.

You should possess a PhD in a relevant subject. Experience in gastrointestinal
microbiology and molecular biology are highly desirable. Experience of working with
animal model systems would also be a distinct advantage.

This post has initial funding for 3 years.
